I found sticking to the Cornell method was easier in school than it has been in the workaday world. In a math class, for instance, simply writing down everything the instructor wrote on the board would probably fill a few pages worth of the central note area. I would use the cue column for my own comments (prof says this will be on Friday's quiz) and "links" to pages or exercises, etc. Essentially, metadata plus.

My current method is a mind map, outline, serious doodling mashup.
